George Kambosos Jr: Team Ferocious is ready to go to war!
A few days before the biggest professional boxing event in Greece, Friday Boxing Fight Night, next Friday in Athens, inthering.gr spoke with George Kambosos Jr., who will be fighting as the co-main event alongside Christina Linardatou. We discussed his expectations for the 7th of June, the expectations of the Greek crowd, his goals after, and the fight sunner fight between his sparring partner, Manny Pacquiao, and Keith Thurman.
George, how was your training camp in Miami?
Training camp in Miami has been superb with no stone unturned. I'm feeling great and in tremendous shape. Team Ferocious is ready to go to war on June 7th in Athens. We have being working hard, day in-day out, with 3 sessions a day under new head coach Javiel Centeno and the great team at the Bommaritos Performance Facility. My regime has been a very intense one to physically prepare my body for a spectacular performance. Great sparring, pad work, roadwork, performance speed sessions, power strength conditioning sessions and advanced recovery sessions have been the foundations of this great camp.
What can the Greek fans expect from George Kambosos Jr.?
The Greek audience can expect a world class performance from an undefeated top 5 world rated fighter. They have the opportunity to see in the flesh one of the best fighters on the planet just before I capture my world title. This will be something very special and I am excited and extremely motivated to give the Greek fans who will be live in attendance, as well as all the world wide audience tuning in, that George "Ferocious" Kambosos Jr. is the real deal. That they have a fighter with the same blood ready to become World Champion representing both all the Greeks and all the Australians with honour.
Provided you get past your opponent on June 7th, is there any particular opponent you would like from your division?
After June 7th when I am successful and move to 17-0, my next fight will be an IBF World Title Eliminator early fall in the US, as at that period of time I will be the highest rated contender for the IBF title. There are a few names already talked about and I am ready to fight anyone of them to secure my world title shot. My team and myself are being positioned into a mandatory position in were the champion will have no choice but to fight me, a position in where I cannot be denied and that's the way I love it. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
How do you see Pacquiao vs Thurman going?
Pacquiao vs Thurman is a great fight, champion vs champion is what the fans love to see and in this fight it's what they will get. If Manny brings that fast pace combination punching it's going to be a very successful night for him even at age 40. Thurman is a dangerous counterpuncher but has not looked great in his last couple fights while Pacquiao has looked very good. I have been Manny Pacquiao's main sparring partner for the last couple fights which included over 250 rounds of sparring together. I have kept him super sharp and felt like I brought the hunger back. Unfortunately, I am tied up with my own big camps now and pushing towards my own world title preparations so I was not available to help prepare Manny for this next fight against Thurman. But in saying that, I still believe Manny has what it takes to beat Thurman and I support him with all my heart to be victorious again.
What would you like to say in closing? In closing, I want to urge all the Greeks, Australians, and worldwide fans to come out and watch me put on a spectacular show on June 7th in Athens, Greece. This could be the last time I ever fight in Greece, especially as we are 1 to 2 fights away from fighting and winning the world title, so I'm excited to get this opportunity to showcase in Greece. It's an honour to have such great support from my sponsors, team, and fanbase from around the world on my road to becoming champion of the world.
